Schoolboy Fatally Falls to His Death Trying to Take ‘Extreme Selfie’ on Ninth-Floor Rooftop (Photos)
A boy has finally paid the ultimate price for fame and popularity after he plunged to his death from a ninth-floor rooftop while taking selfie for his fans.
The unnamed 7-year-old teenager
The 17-year-old boy who achieved fame on Instagram by taking extreme selfies has died. The boy died after falling tragically from the ninth floor of a rooftop while attempting to take a photo of himself ‘dangling’ off the rooftop of a nine-storey building with his friends, according to local media reports.
The student apparently climbed to the top of a building in Vologda, Russia, with a companion one evening last week with the intention of creating a photo of himself dangling off the towering structure. It was revealed that the boy had armed himself with rope and his phone, approached the edge of the rooftop in the fading light and lowered himself over it. However, seconds later, the rope gave way and he plummeted nine floors, according to local media reports.
Although several bushes below the rooftop cushioned the boy’s fall, he suffered extensive and severe injuries. He was rushed to a hospital in eastern Russia’s Vologda Oblast region, where he died around two hours later.
The boy was notorious for taking extreme selfies
Although local media have not identified the boy by name, they have provided links to his Instagram page, on which he used the handle ‘drewsssik’ and often posted images of himself in high-risk situations.
These include snaps of him posing on rooftops, and balancing on steel girders on the top of buildings. Before his death, the student had apparently become addicted to the thrill of taking ‘extreme selfies’. He often captured such images on his phone before posting them to his Instagram page.
He ignored friends’ warnings that he was putting his life at risk by staging the pictures, it is reported. One of the boy’s last Instagram photos shows him hanging on the wall of a building with just one hand.
Tragically, his final image depicts two piles of green rope and a brown-coloured harness – items that appear to have been used in his and his friend’s fatal attempt to stage a ‘falling’ selfie from the Vologda Oblast building. This week, the boy’s friends were taking to Instagram to pay tribute to him. Many posted ‘sad’ emoticons under his photos, and wrote messages such as ‘so sad’ and ‘rest in peace’.
An investigation has been launched into the student’s death. The other person involved in the incident has not been identified.
