Manchester City’s ‘Best Is Yet To Come’ Under Pep Guardiola – Nolito
Nolito says the Manchester City players have absolute belief in Pep Guardiola despite the manager coming in for criticism in recent weeks.
City returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Watford on Wednesday night — their first win in four matches and first at the Etihad in the Premier League since Sept. 17.
Guardiola has said he will not change his playing style despite the Watford victory being only City’s fifth in 16 matches and Noltio says the players are right behind him.
“Obviously we are all behind him and follow what he says. The best is yet to come,” the Spain international told reporters.
“The last few results have also been because we play against another team who are also very good. It’s always tough, and always depends as much on the other team you play.”
With Sergio Aguero banned for four games and Kelechi Iheanacho not fit enough to start, Noltio filled in as a striker against Watford.
The 30-year-old has played mostly as a winger since his summer switch from Celta Vigo but is ready to lead the attack again when City face fellow title challengers Arsenal this weekend.
“I have played in several positions but I’m happy to go wherever the manager needs me and to help my teammates as well,” he added.
“You always need to win after several games where you didn’t get the three points at home. It was difficult, but it was important to get the three points and now we think of Arsenal.”
Despite the win, City remain fourth — seven points behind leaders Chelsea — but have the opportunity to leapfrog over Arsenal with a victory over the Gunners on Sunday.
“It will be a difficult game but I guess Arsenal will come and try to get the three points, as that is their philosophy of football,” Nolito said.
“It is also ours, so we will have to see who gets the points — it’s difficult because they are rivals in the title race.
“Arsenal are going for the title, but there is a lot of the competition still to play, and you can win or lose against any team. We just need to focus and keep fighting.”
