Bright Okpocha popularly known as Basketmouth is a Nigerian Stand-up comedian, rapper, actor, entrepreneur. He has hosted various comedy shows which include: Basketmouth Uncensored and Laff and jams. 1n 2015, he was featured on Cable News Network (CNN) African Voices. He is married to Elsie Okpocha and the couple is blessed with two lovely kids.
Early Life and Background
Basketmouth was born in the late 1970s in Ajegunle, Lagos, but hails from Abia State. He is the third of seven children: five boys and two girls. He completed his primary and secondary school education in Apapa, Lagos State and then moved on to further his tertiary education in the University of Benin where he studied Sociology and anthropology.
Bright and his brother Godwin immediately formed a group “d odd” and later Muyiwa Osunrobi joined them. Together, they did a couple of shows, but couldn’t breakthrough the music industry as their brand of rap wasn’t accepted in Nigeria. In the year 1996/1997, Basketmouth and Godwin gained admission into the University of Benin, Benin-city to study Sociology and Anthropology respectively.
They performed at comedy shows on campus and failed to impress the audience so Basketmouth decided to quit rap music and embrace stand up comedy since he had an inbuilt talent in comedy. According to the comedian, his first stand-up comedy was a failure because the audience got irritated and he was booed off the stage. He decided to do a lot of research on the type of comedy that could excite the audience especially in the University of Benin.
In 1999, Basket mouth managed events alongside performing on stage. He also promoted and packaged shows. It was during this period that Laff n Jamz was conceptualized. In 2000 Laff n Jams came into reality and it featured Ali Baba, Paul Play, Teju Babyface, Mandy, Mr. Patrick and others. Immediately after the show, Laff n Jamz in UNIBEN, Ali Baba advised Basketmouth to come down to Lagos so as to gain exposure.
He was invited to perform at a monthly concert hosted by Lagbaja at Motherland, he was invited by Tequila events to perform alongside Julius Agwu on a campus tour that hit over thirty (30) higher institution in different parts of Nigeria, he was introduced to Opa Williams and made his debut appearance at the sixth edition of Night of a thousand laughs and others. He also managed events alongside performing on stage and his studies.
Basketmouth gained international recognition when he featured in an international concert that was observed by Akon, Joe, Beyonce, Boys 2 Men, Ciara, Chris Brown, Sean Paul, Snoop Dogg, Wyclef Jean and many others. He is the CEO of Barons World Entertainment a consulting/event&artist management company.

Basketmouth was the recipient of the National Comedy Award and the Best Stand-up Comedian of the year (2005 and 2006).
