Francis Agoda Professionally known as I go die or I go dye is a Nigerian comedian who came into the limelight when he featured in Opa William’s Night of a thousand laughs. He has organized various comedy shows such as I go dye standing across the globe. He is happily married to Stella Agoda and the couple are blessed with a son (Roy Agoda).
Early life and Education
Francis Agoda was born April 4, 1979, in Abraka, Ethiope east local government area of Delta State, Nigeria. He had his Primary education in Ighogbadu Primary School, Warri, Delta state, then proceeded for his secondary education in College Of Commerce in Warri, Delta State, where he was the zonal project manager of Junior Engineering Technical Society (JET Club). As an outstanding technical student, he invented a hovercraft ship, a radio transmitter, a battery table fan and a flying helicopter, which secured him a scholarship to study structural engineering at a university in New York. But, he declined the offer and according to him, his parents were not pleased with the decision.
I Go Dye continued to pursue his passion in comedy until he got an invitation to join the Press literary art drama debating Society (PLADD) where he became the program director. His Participation in the organization was a contributing factor in the development of his comedy skills.
At the age of 13, Francis Agoda was a co-host presenter of Mock news, the program aired every Saturday on the segment of veteran broadcaster Tunde Omonode’s DTV Top show with his friend Otaghware Otas Onodjayeke fondly known as I Go Save. I Go Dye later earned a contract to perform in the first comedy club in Nigeria, the Prest Motel Benin-city, Edo state. He was paid one thousand Naira per show.
He gained popularity on media stations and on one occasion when he went to perform at the University Of Benin, he met comedian Baba Kome who shared the idea of performing in Opa William’s show The Night of A Thousand Laughs. After trying four times, he finally got his big debut on the show performing alongside comedians such as Ali Baba, Basketmouth, I Go Die then began making regular appearances on the Comedy shows such as AY Live Show, Crack your Ribs, Basket mouth Uncensored and the host of others.
He had his first European tour with Ehizoya Golden Entertainment, which took him across nine countries and 18 cities in Europe in 2005. NIEDO France also invited him to perform during the UNESCO Cultural Week.
I Go Dye has been featured in MTV Africa Music Awards and also in opening and closing shows of the world’s notable musicians including Akon, Boyz II Men, 50-Cent, Rick Ross, The Game, Kelly Rowland and others
Agoda has won several awards including: African Best Comedian, Creative Award in Africa (CAN), Best Creative Comedian In Africa, TV People Golden Award (New York), NIDOE-SPAIN Award, the Nigeria Best Comedian Award (NEA AWARD) National Comedy Award (NCA), Best Comedian In Nigeria, Best Niger-Delta Comedian, and many more.
